What are the features of the Hankook Dynapro ATM?
This chunky tire is loaded with features. Most noticeable is the wraparound tread design. This not only adds to the rugged looks of the tire, but it actually serves a purpose. It protects the sidewall from cuts, impact breaks, and abrasion while offering added traction in snowy or muddy roads. It even comes with a rim flange protector to guard your precious wheels from nasty curb damage.
What we like about the Hankook Dynapro ATM is the 8% wider footprint. The wider contact patch ensures optimum grip in all-weather driving. Hankook did this on purpose to improve the wear characteristics as well.
The Hankook Dynapro ATM also benefits from larger and chunkier tread blocks. Look closely and you’ll see the sharp edges on each block. The design is derived from tiger teeth (no kidding!) to offer unmatched traction. Surrounding the tread blocks are angled side grooves and zig-zag patterns on the block edges to improve grip, enhance traction in the wet, and promote the self-cleaning capabilities of the tire.
How does it perform in off-road driving?
It’s a stellar tire for off-road driving. The Hankook Dynapro ATM is not all about looks. This tire can really motivate your off-road rig over a variety of harsh terrain. It rolls effectively over loose soil and gravel. It doesn’t back down from mud, sand, and grass, too.
It is also engineered to be more durable. Hankook reinforced the tread gauge and the sidewall to withstand impact and damage in sustained off-road driving. The reinforced carcass is designed to improve stability and steering feel as you traverse into the wilderness.
But how does it behave in street driving?
It’s a mixed bag. The Hankook Dynapro ATM is admirable in the sense that it offers a bit more refinement in the street, but not by much. The tire feels good at slow speeds and city driving. Speeding up in the open highway will reveal shortcomings like road noise. This is the not the quietest or most refined tire in the category, and nor is it the most comfortable as well. But at slow to moderate speeds, the Hankook Dynapro ATM is more than adequate.
How does it perform in dry and wet roads?
The Hankook Dynapro ATM offers marginal grip and traction on dry roads. It’s not a sporty tire by all means, but you’ll have to be a lunatic to unsettle the tires in normal day-to-day driving. It’s more at home traversing rough and uneven pavement but it won’t ruin your day as you drive home from an entire day of off-roading.
In the wet, it’s a different story. Even though the Hankook Dynapro ATM is equipped with features to enhance water displacement, it’s not exactly a stellar performer in the wet. This is one of the minor drawbacks of the tire. Of course, you will only feel the lack of wet grip if you push it, but you’ll need to be judicious with the steering and throttle inputs to keep the tires in contact with the road.
Is it good for snow or ice?
Not much. This is yet another kink in the armor of the Hankook Dynapro ATM. This is an all-season tire designed primarily for off-roading. Other all-terrain tires are rated M + S for enhanced performance in snow or deep mud. Sadly, the Dynapro ATM is not rated as such. The result is acceptable performance over light snow, but that’s about it. If you live in places with long and cold winters, this is not the tire for you.
But if you do most of the driving in challenging off-road terrain (particularly in the dry), the Hankook Dynapro ATM is more than capable. And because it looks chunkier and wider than other all-terrain tires, it gives your truck and SUV a genuine go-anywhere attitude.

Should I buy the Hankook Dynapro AT-M?
Yes, but only if you really need a dedicated all-terrain and off-road tire. Like we previously mentioned above, the Hankook Dynapro ATM feels more at home in rugged off-road situations. It is also marginally comfortable for sustained highway driving. But if you do a lot of road trips or long driving in open highways, the tire roar at higher speeds might get tiring in the long run.
But then we get to the price. The Hankook Dynapro ATM offers terrific value. It may not be the best all-terrain tire overall, but it’s more than adequate for hardcore off-roaders. For some buyers, this is more than enough to sway the decision in favor of the Hankook Dynapro ATM.
Tires have become more capable over the years. Due to the demands of modern drivers, tire makers are scrambling to come up with hybrid tires that offer multi-faceted capabilities. This is the reason why it’s important to choose your tires carefully. If your truck, SUV, or van demands a tough, durable, reliable, and relatively affordable all-terrain tire, take a second look at the Hankook Dynapro ATM.
