What are the things you look for in a performance tire? Of course, it should have better grip to deliver sporty handling and exhilarating performance. It must also be comfortable enough to absorb the shock of running over potholes. It doesn’t hurt if the tire looks good as well.

All of those merits come to mind with the Falken Pro G4 A/S. This tire is not only stylish, but it can improve the performance of your compact sedan or midsize luxury car. But before we get to the actual review, allow me to clarify a couple of things about the Falken Pro G4 A/S.

If you look at Falken’s official USA website, the Falken Pro G4 A/S is classified as an ultra-high performance tire for light trucks, CUVs, and SUVs. This is not surprising at all. In fact, you wouldn’t believe the number of tires sold for sport trucks, small and sporty SUVs, and even sporty crossovers

But since the Falken Pro G4 A/S is sold in 15” to 20” diameters, it can also cover the needs of compact cars, medium-sized sedans, and even larger luxury vehicles. Like I said, this tire can do it all!

But if you have a mini compact or smaller vehicle, this tire is a bit of overkill. You do pay less if you choose this tire over other sporty alternatives, but the harder rubber compound might be too stiff for smaller and lighter vehicles.

What vehicles are applicable to the Falken Pro G4 A/S?

Since the Falken Pro G4 A/S is available in a bewildering array of sizes, it is applicable to a large variety of import and domestic sedans and crossover vehicles. In larger sizes, this tire is also great for sport-tuned pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles.

This tire is a good choice for the Volkswagen Golf and Beetle, Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Dodge Avenger, BMW 3-Series, Audi A3, Ford Focus, And Nissan 370Z. If you have crossover such as a Mazda CX-3 or CX-5, Ford Edge, Nissan Rouge, Subaru Forester, or Ford Flex, the Falken Pro G4 A/S is also a top pick.

But it doesn’t end there. Let’s say you have a pickup truck like the Nissan Navara, Ford Ranger, Ford F-150, Chevy Colorado, or Honda Ridgeline, and you want to install a new set of rims for the sporty truck vibe. What do you choose for tires? Yes, The Falken Pro G4 A/S is a wise and affordable choice.

What are the features of the Falken Pro G4 A/S?

Most evident is the aggressive asymmetrical tread design. The outside shoulder of the tire features solid and wide-angled tread blocks. This design will improve high speed cornering and stability. It will also provide the necessary biting edges to offer better traction in snowy or wet roads.

In fact, those wide-angled tread blocks are designed to push the snow in the center of the tire. With two pairs of wide circumferential grooves, the snow and water are quickly dissipated to offer a better contact patch. This gives the tire incredible response and stronger braking in the wet.

The inner part of the shoulder is more conservative. It is home to multiple 3D siping to enhance traction and grip. The tire is constructed from Falken’s unique silica compound. It is formulated to remain pliable in colder weather with lower rolling resistance.

Is it good for cold weather and snowy driving?

It depends on the prevailing weather conditions. If temperatures are consistently falling below 15 F, your vehicle will drive better with a set of snow or winter tires. But for light snow with no traces of hard icing, the Falken Pro G4 A/S can motivate your vehicle with utmost precision. Then again, if you are anticipating heavier snowfall, the tires may not be able to offer the desired traction and grip.

How about in the wet?

The Falken Pro G4 A/S is fantastic in the wet. Remember, this is an ultra-high performance tire we’re talking about here, so it better be the boss in the wet. In fact, it is a reliable and solid performer in the rain. The unique asymmetric treads do a fabulous job of maintaining a flat contact patch with the road, and this is despite a heavy downpour. But if the 3D sipes start to fade, so will the wet and snow performance of the tire. However, it will remain sporty and responsive in the dry.

Does it deliver sporty performance?

Yes! The Falken Pro G4 A/S is created to meet the needs of fast vehicles and sporty drivers. The grip is relentless and the handling is tight. Braking remains strong while cornering is simply transformed into a higher level. This tire is better in all aspects than an ordinary set of touring or all-season tires. It delivers on all fronts while still remaining an affordable choice.

Any downsides?

Only one: the road noise. You see, the Falken Pro G4 A/S is more comfortable than a set of summer tires. However, it is not as comfy as a touring tire, and that’s a given. But the thing that bothers me most is the road noise. The tire is relatively quiet at low speeds. Tire roar will come creeping in at medium and high speeds.

This is not exactly a big issue if you have a larger luxury sedan or pickup truck. But if you have a smaller compact (or a vehicle with poor insulation), the road noise is a nightmare on those long road trips.

But if you consider the wear characteristics of the Falken Pro G4 A/S, the road noise is a bit easier to live with. You can expect the tires to last longer than conventional all-season rubber. Then again, this will all depend on your driving habits or vehicle application.
