Like most of its rivals, the Japanese tiremaker focused on delivering good performance in most categories, improving on the predecessor’s wet and winter traction.

What are the features of the Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058?
The GEOLANDAR CV G058 is made with what Yokohama refers to as a new compound technology consisting of micro silica, silica dispersant, and two blend polymers available only on these tires. The CV-2 compound maintains flexibility at low temperatures, contributing to higher traction on wet and snow-covered roads.

Furthermore, the GEOLANDAR CV G058 features a sipe-based symmetric pattern for improved traction in snowy and wet conditions while also promoting even treadwear.
The tread pattern combines 2D and 3D sipes, creating numerous biting edges for improved traction when on snow. Besides, the sipes open when driving on snow, channeling it away from the road’s surface. This ensures the blocks make contact with the ground firmly, enhancing traction.
The sipes also contribute to the tire’s wet traction by working in conjunction with the four circumferential grooves to efficiently evacuate large volumes of water and avoid hydroplaning. The center groves are specifically for wet traction, while the zigzag shoulder grooves handle snow and wet traction.
To further enhance mileage and even tread wear, the tires adopt a flat and wide profile that is optimized to distribute pressure uniformly. Also, the shoulder and intermediate ribs have a round profile to ensure that weight and contact pressure are distributed throughout the tread.
Moreover, the symmetric tread pattern contributes to improved comfort, longer tread life, and lower road noise. It also allows for easy rotation and helps with fuel efficiency.
To keep the noise levels low, Yokohama employed a five-pitch variation feature responsible for lowering airborne noise by blending tread noise into a white broad tone that is not intrusive.
The GEOLANDAR CV G058 is available in 40 sizes for 16”, 17”, 18”, 19”, and 20” wheel diameters, and a speed rating of either H (130 mph) or V (149 mph), depending on the size. It’s also available in either SL (standard load) or extra-load (XL) load rating. The SL versions can hold up to 35 psi maximum load pressure, while the XL models can support up to 41 psi. Apart from the loading capacity differences, the SL tires are more fuel-efficient, while the XL versions are more resistant to damage.
To know whether your vehicle requires an XL or SL-rated tire, check the owner’s manual. Remember, while it’s okay to use XL-rated tires on a car labeled for SL, you cannot replace XL tires with SL tires. Like most touring all-season tires, this tire has a UTQG rating of 740, meaning it has an expected tread life above 60,000 miles.
The GEOLANDAR CV G058 has an AA traction rating implying it has a short braking distance in wet weather conditions. It also has an A temperature rating meaning it’s designed to resist heat build-up, making it great for summer temperatures that can cause a blowup.

What are the Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058 maintenance indicators?
Yokohama is yet to develop a signature maintenance indicator system for its tires. This makes them lag behind competitors like Continental, who have a unique advanced QuickView Indicator feature. What we have on the Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058 is the industry standard tread wear indicators.
The Tread Wear Indicators (TWI) for the GEOLANDAR CV G058 are little rubber bars that sit recessed in the grooves. The indicators are placed at the minimum tread wear level, which is 2/32 inches from the bottom of the tire. As you use the tire, the tread wears down, and the depth from the surface to the indicators decreases up to the point the indicators are flush with the tread.
Driving a car with tires that are below the marked level is illegal and highly dangerous because of poor traction and hydroplaning resistance on wet roads. Apart from relying on tread wear indicators, you can also use a penny or a tread gauge to determine the treadwear.
It’s also recommended to rotate symmetric tires after every 5,000 miles or at every oil change.
What is the Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058 warranty?
The Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058 boasts a treadwear warranty of 65,000 miles or five years from the date of purchase (whichever comes first). There is also a 30-day trial satisfaction guarantee.
Yokohama tires also have a workmanship and materials warranty that is available for five years, inclusive of free tire replacements for the first year or 2/32 inches of wear that is propagated to 2/32 inches of the remaining depth.
The GEOLANDAR CV G058 has a similar tread life warranty to most of the other top Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season tires. The Cooper Discoverer EnduraMax, which is in the same category, has a 60,000-mile warranty, the Pirelli SCORPION VERDE ALL has a 65,000-mile warranty, while the Continental CrossContact LX25 has a 70,000-mile warranty.
To be eligible for Yokohama’s warranty, you must meet the following requirements:
- The tire has to bear the Yokohama brand name and complete D.O.T serial identification number on the sidewall.
- Should be operated under normal highway use (commercial applications are excluded)
- The original usable tread depth has to be down to the level of tread wear indicator bars molded at 2/32 inches.
- 60 months from the date of purchase (proof of purchase required). If there is no proof of purchase available, then 72 months from the date of manufacture.
- It only applies to the original tire purchaser and is not transferable to any other party.

How Does The Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058 Behave on Dry Roads
The GEOLANDAR CV G058 provides a very safe driving experience for drivers that just want a dependable daily-driving tire. The steering is reasonably responsive and linear and also provides excellent straight-line tracking, so driving on the highway is a cakewalk.
The good steering response is accompanied by high levels of lateral grip and longitudinal traction for the category. Yokohama’s latest crossover/SUV all-season offering competes with the class-leading tires on all metrics, providing excellent acceleration traction, short stopping distances, and stable handling.
Overall, I was very impressed with how this tire performs. Sure, it doesn’t feel sporty, but if you own a crossover or an SUV, that’s the last thing you’d care about. Crucially, the GEOLANDAR CV G058 is easy to drive and stable on the highway and among the best tires in its category on dry roads.
Still, the Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058 is a crossover/SUV touring tire, meaning it isn’t designed for performance driving. So, if you own a fast SUV and want a more engaging driving experience, you should go for a summer performance tire or a Street/Sport summer/all-season tire.
How does the Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058 handle wet and slippery roads?
Yokohama clearly did its homework with the GEOLANDAR CV G058 and significantly improved the wet traction of its predecessor. As a result, the new model is now among the best rain tires in its category, with excellent overall traction and drivability.
Although cheaper, the G058 competes with the outstanding Continental CrossContact LX25 in all metrics. Most importantly, it stops with authority, giving you some of the shortest distances in the category. Moreover, the handling is superb, thanks to the high levels of lateral grip. And even when the tire loses traction, it does so in a predictable way, giving you more time to react.
In other words, the G058 not only impresses with its traction, but it also makes it easier for the driver. And finally, the hydroplaning resistance is exceptional, so your crossover/SUV will never lose stability during rainy conditions, even when you drive through a puddle of water!
With that being said, how is the Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058 on snowy roads?
Unfortunately, the GEOLANDAR CV G058 is a step back from those competitors, both in terms of traction and driving experience. You’ll struggle to keep your crossover/SUV in check during cornering with this tire, as it requires constant corrections with the steering wheel or driving much more slowly. Moreover, the stopping distances are much longer than the best-in-class products, and there will be a lot of slippage during acceleration.
That’s in contrast to other crossover/SUV touring all-season tires, like the Cooper Discoverer EnduraMax and Continental CrossContact LX25, which are setting new standards in the category.
In isolation, the GEOLANDAR CV G058 might seem like a solid choice for winter driving, but the fact is that the competition is better.
Still, if you live in an area where it doesn’t snow frequently, this shouldn’t worry you; Yokohama’s crossover/SUV all-season offering is still very capable in dry and freezing conditions and one of the best in cold rainy conditions.
Is the Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058 suitable for off-road driving?
Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058 is not designed to be an off-road tire. Put simply, the tread design won’t give you good traction, but crucially, Mud and stones can get stuck on the grooves, which can reduce the lifespan.
Off-road tires are reinforced and have aggressive sidewalls and hence cannot get punctures easily. They also provide much higher traction, thanks to the aggressive tread patterns with a high void area. If you are planning to go deep off-roading, check the GEOLANDAR A/T G015 all-terrain tire or the GEOLANDAR M/T G003 mud-terrain tire.
Is Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058 a run flat tire?
The Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058 is not a run-flat tire. Unfortunately, if you get a puncture, you will have to either stop and change the tire yourself or call for assistance.
If you are looking to purchase run-flat tires from Yokohama, check if the tire has the letters ZPS (Zero Pressure System) printed on the sidewall. The only Yokohama run-flat tire is the AVID ENVigor grand touring tire for passenger and performance cars.
How is the Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058 road noise and comfort performance?
The GEOLANDAR CV G058 was designed with comfort in mind, and you can tell that even after the first few miles. The ride is very soft, which works well on most roads, as it can easily absorb smaller road imperfections.
However, this also means that potholes can be felt as vibrations in the cabin, accompanied by a secondary movement that makes for a less refined ride.
Fortunately, I have nothing bad to say about the noise qualities of the tire — there is almost no road noise at lower speeds, and the tread growl blends nicely with the wind noise at higher speeds. For passengers inside the cabin, it means a very quiet and refined ride.
Should I buy the Yokohama GEOLANDAR CV G058?
If you live in an area where it doesn’t snow frequently, the GEOLANDAR CV G058 is one of the best crossover/SUV all-season tires you can get. It combines great comfort with excellent dry/wet traction and long treadwear, making it one of the most accomplished tires. It’s also reasonably priced and available in sizes that fit most modern SUVs and crossovers.
Still, drivers that live in areas with more harsh wintry conditions should avoid the GEOLANDAR CV G058, as its snow traction is only average for the category. If you want a crossover/SUV touring all-season tire that works on snow-covered roads, I recommend the Cooper Discoverer EnduraMax and Continental CrossContact LX25, or even better, a set of dedicated winter tires.
